Key Benefits of IEC Registration

An IEC is your passport to global trade. It enables legal import/export, unlocks government benefits, builds international credibility, and positions your business in the global marketplace.

International Trade Access

An Importer Exporter Code (IEC) is your gateway to international trade. Without a valid IEC, no person or business can import or export goods and services from India. Whether you want to export products, import raw materials, or offer services to global clients, an IEC is the mandatory first step. It opens doors to markets in over 190 countries and enables you to participate in global commerce legally.

DGFT Portal Registration

The IEC is issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Government of India, through their online portal. Our team handles the complete application process on the DGFT portal, including form filling, document upload, fee payment, and application tracking. We ensure every detail is correctly entered and all required documents are properly submitted to avoid rejections and delays.

Digital IEC Certificate

Upon successful application, the DGFT issues a digital IEC certificate that can be downloaded from the portal. The IEC number is a unique 10-digit code that serves as your identity for all import/export transactions. The digital certificate can be used for customs clearance, bank remittances, shipping documentation, and all other international trade-related activities. No physical certificate is issued anymore.

RCMC Guidance

Registered-Cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) is issued by Export Promotion Councils and is required to avail benefits under various export promotion schemes of the Government of India. We guide you through the RCMC application process and help you identify the right Export Promotion Council for your products or services. RCMC enables you to access export incentives, duty exemptions, and government support programs.

Frequently Asked Questions About IEC Registration

Find answers to the most common questions about IEC registration, eligibility, documents, processing time, and validity.

What is IEC and why is it needed?
IEC (Importer Exporter Code) is a unique 10-digit code issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. It is mandatory for any business or individual who wishes to import or export goods and services from India. Without an IEC, you cannot clear goods through customs, receive international payments, or participate in international trade. The IEC is required for all shipments through seaports, airports, and land customs stations.
Is IEC mandatory for services export?
IEC is mandatory for exporting goods from India. For services export, an IEC may not be mandatory in all cases, but it is highly recommended. Many banks require an IEC for processing foreign inward remittances (FIRC) for service exports. Additionally, having an IEC enables you to access export promotion schemes, avail duty benefits, and simplifies the process of receiving international payments through proper banking channels.
How long is IEC valid?
An IEC issued by the DGFT is valid for a lifetime. However, IEC holders are required to update their IEC details annually on the DGFT portal. The annual update must be done between April and June every year, even if there are no changes in the IEC details. Failure to update the IEC annually can lead to the IEC being deactivated by the DGFT. The update process is simple and our team can handle it for you as part of our support package.
Can I modify my IEC details after registration?
Yes, you can modify your IEC details after registration through the DGFT portal. Changes to address, bank details, business name, nature of business, or addition/removal of partners/directors can be made online. The modification process requires supporting documents for the changes. Our team can handle the complete modification process including document preparation, portal filing, and tracking. We recommend keeping your IEC details updated to avoid any issues during import/export transactions.
